About Our Organization

Camp Tweedsmuir consists of 40 acres of land within the Village of Fruitvale. The main Camp area is down in a bit of a hole and has flat area for the cabins, playing/camping field, camp fire area and parade square. The messhall is up slightly from this, right beside Beaver Creek and then one more slight level up is the washroom building and field. Access is off of Highway 3B onto Bluebird Rd and then onto Scout Rd and right into the camp.

Our cabins consist of 9 cabins each with 8 bunks (no mattresses), no power to these. We also have the Shada Shack (sleeps 4) and the First Aid cabin (sleeps 2-3 in the back and 1-2 out front) We also have a small meeting hall that can be utilized for more sleeping spots if needed. The Messhall is 30x40 and has a full kitchen (not commercial and no dishwasher) does have large propane stove with griddle and 2 ovens, regular fridge as well as a large walk in cooler. Lots of pots and pans, dishes, cutlery and coffee urns etc. Will seat 100 for meetings and we have had 80 plus sit down to eat. The hall is heated for winter use and is wheelchair accessible (have a little metal ramp to put at the front entrance) Phone on site as well as access to internet (small fee) and cell service is good in the area.

We have lots of picnic tables around the cabins and also a large covered 22 ft long picnic table in front of the First Aid cabin area. Do have a large barbeque located at shelter arrangements can be made for use of this. This is located fairly close to the kitchen entrance to the messhall.

Washroom building is up from the hall and is accessible via ramp from the hall or by paved road out front. Separate men’s and women’s sides both wheelchair accessible. Men’s have 3 toilets and 4 urinals and 4 sinks. Ladies has 4 toilets and sinks. Both have 2 shower stalls, one of which is wheelchair accessible as is one toilet in each side. Building is heated for winter use also.

The upper field at the washroom area is great for tenting and for activities. No vehicles on this area. Surrounded by trees, this area is partially shaded in the afternoon. Large covered area at the end of the washroom with picnic tables and a fire pit beside.

Water is potable- comes from 2 wells on the property that are operated by the Beaver Falls Water Works District. Water is delicious and cold!!!!

Campfire area is behind the row of cabins and has a memorial garden as a border. O food or drink in this area please!!!

Main field is great for activities or can be used for more tenting and trailer parking. There are no hook ups for trailers but we do have a water tap close to the field and lots of hose.

The main property is divided in 3 by Beaver Creek and Kelly Creek, we have 2 bridges over Beaver Creek and there is a path up by Columbia Gardens Rd to access the other 1/3 of the property that is wilderness. Trails go from the camp across the creek and into forested trails that all lead you to the upper Mazzochi Park. The trails do go close to the creek in one area giving you views of the “shoots” section of the creek.

The upper section of the property is leased out to Beaver Valley Recreation with soccer fields, playground and a Pump track. We do have access to this and can book the fields when we need them.

There is a nice walk down the rail tracks (can touch base with Atco as to trains running) that takes you to the “Beaver Falls” and the train trestle. Takes about an hour return for this small hike.

Despite being within the Village boundaries, the low level of the main camp and the forest around us make it very private and fairly quiet. We are protected by Fire services and ambulance in the Village, there is a Clinic in town as well as grocery store, gas station, Credit Union, Subway and a Pizza shop. The local Hospital is about 20 minutes away in Trail as is most shopping etc.
