Friday, November 4th - Sunday, November 6th, 2022

We welcome you to join us for a fun-filled weekend of Scouter Development – and for the whole family!

  This Scouter Skills weekend is geared towards senior youth, and both new and experienced section scouters and their families. This will be a full weekend of training sessions with food included and activities for children attending with their Scouter-parent.

When: 6pm Friday, November 4th – 11am Sunday, November 6th, 2022
Where: Camp Barnard  3202 Young Lake Rd, Sooke, BC V9Z 0J6

We are offering two streams

Junior stream includes:

  • Scouting basics
  • Anatomy of meetings
  • Standing camp planning
  • activities
  • hard skills (lashing, knife skills, fire lighting)

Senior stream includes:

  • Scouting basics
  • Youth Led
  • Standing camp planning
  • Hard skills (knots, pioneering, permits)
  • hard skills (lashing, knife skills, fire lighting)
  • Either advance camp skills/prep OR basic camp skills and gear maintenance

Alternative stream includes:

  • Supporting canoeing a three hour session intended to help support a primary canoe lead when taking youth on flatwater.    
  • Participants can opt out of block 1 and 2 OR block 3 and 4 to attend either the morning or the afternoon session – subject to space in the session.


Who is this weekend for?

  • 3rd and 4th year Scouts, Venturers, or Rovers
  • All new and experienced Section Scouters
  • Your families
  • Potential Volunteers and Interested Parents are welcome!

Registration Fee: $50/person attending ( Doubleknot fees and GST/PST)

  • Mug up on Friday, food and drink all day Saturday plus breakfast on Sunday morning
  • We ask that you pack your own travel mug and water bottle
  • There are several cabins available. Families can share a cabin. Scouters and youth may choose to share with other participants (respecting the BP&P) or to bring their own tents.
    • Private cabins are not likely to be available unless there are special needs that require such.
  • Youth will both participate in sessions AND have their own programming.

Event organizers will email a packing list a week before the training weekend..

Cancellation Policy
Booking cancelled with 2-3 weeks notice: Full payment will be refunded with the convenience fee subtracted from the total reimbursed. Booking cancelled with 1 week notice: 50% of total payment is refundable with the convenience fee subtracted from the total reimbursed. Booking cancelled with less than 1 week notice: No refunds. The organizers, as a last resort, may cancel booking due to extenuating circumstances: Transfer 100% of payment to another booking/event within the same fiscal year PLEASE NOTE: All cancellations must be done in writing and e-mailed to Chantelle Cutting <1stsooke@scouts.ca>. All refunds will be processed through the booking system and will take approximately 2-5 business days to be credited to your original method of payment **Phone messages will not be accepted as notice of your cancellation. ** Scouts Canada reserves the right to cancel a booking at any time.
